Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn't pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same.

In a Mind of a Gambler...Revealing the Dark Side

Thoughts, feelings and emotions that hopefully provoke the purest of minds...Capturing thoughts through written words is like capturing pictures on film or digital camera.

Today it is wake up call for me because I want 2011 to be a year of change. I have been seen so much gambling in my lifetime.

In the western culture like many in this world, life is filled with pressure from school, work, family and other personal things. We have many bills to pay including rent on shelter, making mortgage payment, utility bills and other unnecessary bills that we may accumulate due to our inability to manage our personal budget properly. Those that are married, pressure from family and children add more weight to the equation of how to always maintain a healthy and functional family.

All humans are intrinsically gamblers; but their addicted behaviors to gambling must be triggered by forces that nurture the needs to have fun, excitement and become instant winner.

A gambler does not wake up one day and become a gambler. Gambling is a disease caused by many social and environmental factors. Every gambler has a story to tell of why they have become addicted to gambling. What ever the case maybe, gambling is a disease and should be treated as such. If not treated, most gambling addicts ended up loosing every thing they have inclusive of personal properties, family, job and other things in life that are most valuable including themselves through suicides.

Why do people gamble in the first place? For some, it may just be a simple trip for buffet at the casino among friends and family. For some it may just be a night out and about with friends and having some fun at the race track. For some, it maybe an escape from family or other problems they face in life. Once a winner of some sort of betting; people are hooked because it is only natural that money is seen as easily made. The fun, the excitement, the cool life style, the rush are all the facade that a gambler feel..most often times, he or she is in his or her own little world. Then comes the chase once money is loss. The lies, deceits, hopeless and despairs. The breaking up of family and the neglect of the children ensued. It becomes a long road, long nights, days in smoke filled room that never seemed to end. The thoughts of getting it all back are there and too real all the times. Some would steal, lie or rob just to fulfill the need to have the cash to go for the chase. No matter how many times they loose...they will never accept the facts because they always under the impression that it will be just a matter of those up moments.

Gambling is treatable but it must be from the heart of those addicted. The addict must be convinced that he/she needs help. It is a long process whereby an addict needs to realize his/her problems and is able to talk about them. Most often times, our culture shuns on people with gambling addiction and we often times do not see it as a disease that need to be treated. And most of times, we put blame on the them.

If addicts are to be cured; we must learn to forgive and find ways to help them. They, themselves must yield to help themselves by realizing the problems. Most of the times, an addict will never admit to having the problems. As friend, family member or community person we must encourage open communication whereby an addict can feel safe talking about his/her problems. A safe environment where he/she can feel comfortable talking about issues/problems; then most often times, we will be able to joint hands and seek for alternative solutions...
